Bed and Breakfast

When you’re touring you need to stay the night someplace nice and relaxing with all the comforts of home.

Some choose a hotel, boutique hotel, a motel, a guest house or a bed and breakfast or B&B

So what’s the difference? What exactly differentiates these types of accommodation from each other?

Well a bed and breakfast is a comfortable friendly often family run establishment just like home, well actually you are at home, someone else’s home, you get your bed and your breakfast, however, the only real downside to a B&B is the fact that you usually have to be out by 10 AM the next morning, not much use if you’re staying in the area for a few days.

The Motel idea came about many years ago and have become more and more popular ever since, a motel is a hotel for motorists, hence the word motel, as people began to travel more and more they were often stuck for somewhere to stay the night, motels are usually quite cheap too and are easy to get at from the main highways.

Hotels are much bigger establishments and usually based in the town or city.

A hotel has to provide you with food and drink and often include other(a) extras that cannot be found in the other alternatives, such as a swimming pool or Jacuzzi

If you’re staying in a hotel you won’t be allowed access until 2.30 or 3 PM and you will have to leave the next morning before midday.

A guest house is similar to a hotel in one way and also a bed and breakfast in another way in that you will have your home comforts, with a friendly and often family run business, guest houses were originally a house that the proprietor would set up as a guesthouse to allow people to stay while in the area, ideal for those who did not have anywhere else to go and of course, provide some income for the owner.

A Boutique hotel is much different than the usual hotel chain or motel, for example, they provide a more personal accommodation and other services and facilities, and usually have just a few rooms.

Boutique hotels are often referred to as lifestyle hotels and were first appearing in the 1980’s in various major cities around the World

They are also often quite luxurious and themed, such as in England, you can find boutique hotels that are old Tudor buildings with open beams, just an example.

Before you set out on your journey, with the ease of the Internet, it's a good idea to check the potential accommodation on your route and contact a few places where you may wish to stay and check the prices; you can save quite a lot of money doing this.
